Taormina
The most exclusive tourist destination in Sicily. It is situated on the East coast of the island of Sicily.
The history of Taormina goes back to 734 BC, when the Greeks domination settled there. In the 19th century Taormina began to appeal wealthy tourists from northern Europe and it became a preferred destination people who love extraordinary sites. It rises on a hill 250m above the sea, part of the ancient wall is visible, as well as remains of the Greek domination. The old Greek Theatre is certainly the main attraction, built by the Greeks and re- built by the Romans it is still used for concerts and shows. Below you can reach beautiful sandy beaches (Giardini Naxos and Letojanni) and with a 45 minute drive you can reach Mount Etna. Taormina hosts many international festivals, including the Taormina Film Festival, Taormina Arte only to mention a few.

Taormina offers a wide range of choice of food and drinks for all budgets and palates. You can pick from Michelin star restaurants to local trattorias and cafes., fish is the first on the list, there are hundreds of kinds of courses. If you are not a fish lover, you will find a selection of meat and cheeses too. Don’t miss desert, such as the ‘cannolo’ (different from the one in Palermo; and the famous ‘granite’ (flavored shredded ice). If you want to try a truly red wine go for the Etna Rosso.

How to Get Around
The best way to visit the town is to walk, you cannot drive in Taormina. Take into account that it is a hilltop town, so be prepared to climb a bit. Everything is walking distance, and you will find all the need information for your excursions at the tourist Office in the center.
